This year's 32nd annual Banff Mountain Film Festival [1] will be bringing to you some of the world's best mountain films and speakers. It's aim is to share the experiences of climbing, mountaineering, discovering remote cultures, and the world's last great wild places. These experiences will be brought to life on the big screen this fall. Over 300 films are entered in this competition and the top 50 will be screened throughout the festival. Some of this year's entries are" Committed: Keen Youth directed by Paul Diffley and Dave Brown, is a story of the hard trad scene in Britain. It focuses on the climbing childhood of Peak District prodigy James Pearson. Higher Ground: Mountain Photographer directed by Chris Alstrin and Alexander Lavigne, follows the story of Andrew Querner, a photographer from Canmore, Alberta, and his quest for the perfect climbing photograph[2]. Nine Winters Old directed by Bill Heath, is for all those who live for the winter[3]. A celebration of winter and its followers complete with stunning visuals and complementary music highlight the stories of those who come alive for wintertime. Into the Wild directed by Sean Penn, is based on the true story by Jon Krakauer following the story of Christopher McCandless as he travels across America and ultimately hitchhikes to Alaska to walk "into the wild"[4]. If you've read the book but haven't seen the movie you're in for a big surprise.

This year's BMFF World Tour will be held by the Alpine Club of Canada - Vancouver Section on December 4-6[5]. Highlights will also be shown at the Outdoor Adventure Show at BC Place Stadium February 14 & 15, but these won't be full length tour screenings.
