''FMCBC / ACC Representative: Natalie Stafl''
==Past FMCBC/ACC Representatives==

This year has had a significant focus on land-use issues, particularly regarding the designation of Phelix creek. My term started last April with my first real involvement starting in June with the FMCBC AGM in Nelson.  I connected a few names to faces, was elected member of the board and have been attending monthly Rec and Con meetings and telephone Board meetings ever since.
Because sometimes it helps to talk to those who have been there before...

The history and background to the whole Phelix issue can be found elsewhere on the wiki so I won't repeat it here, but thus far it has been a pretty lengthy process of club involvement initiating a petition, letter writing campaign and joint meetings with members of the motorized community and government appointed mediator.  Other issues that came up over the past year included:
''2023 - 2024 FMCBC ACC Representative: Adam Steele''<br>
''2022 - 2023 FMCBC ACC Representative: Adam Steele''<br>
*Dealing with Heli-ski tenure applications for Mt. Waddington (negotiating and definging a no-fly zone)

*Negotiating Tyler Freed's (from Coast Range Heli-ski) tenure application and avoidance protocol
''2020 - 2021 FMCBC ACC Representative: Alia Sanger'' <br>
*Addressing the Garibaldi at Squamish resort application
''2019 - 2020 FMCBC ACC Representative: Natalie Bojarsky''<br>
*Addressing the four season resort application for Falls lake
''2018 - 2019 FMCBC ACC Representative: Alexander Girard''<br>

''2015 - 2016 FMCBC ACC Representative:'' [???]<br>
''2014 - 2015 FMCBC ACC Representative:'' [???]

Throughout the process I wrote to many Premiers, got a better understanding about how government operates and cajoled/ coerced as many other people to write letters as I possible could.  I look forward to continue being actively involved in land use issues in the year to come.

Introduction

The FMCBC/ACC Representative position was renamed "External Relations Representative" in 2023-2024, to better reflect the role's engagement with a variety of institutional actors. Also, the new name is less of an alphabet soup...

FMCBC

  • Liases with the Federation of Mountain Clubs of BC to arrange payment for the VOC's liability insurance.
  • Attends FMCBC meetings and reports back to the VOC Exec on the various FMCBC projects and objectives. May sit on FMCBC's Board of Directors if there is a vacancy and interest on the part of the exec member.
  • Assists the VOC Executive to formulate policy regarding the FMCBC projects and objectives.
  • Ensures that the FMCBC is aware of VOC positions and projects, and seeks avenues for cooperation and mutual benefit.
  • Provides the FMCBC with a list of interested student members' email addresses, so that the Fed's monthly e-news and bi-annual publication Cloudburst can be sent to our members.

ACC

  • Acts as liaison between the Alpine Club of Canada (ACC) and VOC. Is familiar with the ACC and what it has to offer to VOC.
  • Provides the ACC with a list of interested student members' email addresses so our members can access their free student memberships to the ACC-Vancouver section.

General

  • A position suitable for someone who is big on collaboration, policy, and fundraising. Interest in environmental and access issues is also very helpful.
  • Organizes writing letters to relevant officials and organizations about recreation and conservation issues that involve the VOC, and encourages members to be engaged on conservation issues that are of interest.
  • Keeps the VOC up to date on environmental and conservation issues that involve outdoor recreation in BC.
