'''Helifor Industries''' will be doing some helilogging for Terminal Forest Products in the Spring, and again in the fall.  They can probably move all the materials in 2 loads, and each trip is estimated to be about 15 minutes.  The going rate for this helicopter is about $5000/hr, so that makes $2500 which is really reasonable.  Factoring in a 50% margin (since the trip time is a crude guesstimate) puts the cost at $3750.  They can provide us with slings at no charge.

The hourly rate on the Bell 214B Heavy Lift is $4119.50 with fuel and tax.  The flight time from Squamish to Roe Creek and back is .4 of an hour.  The flight time from Roe Creek to Mt. Brew and back to Roe Creek is .3 of an hour.  The wieght of 11000 lbs. should be pre-rigged and split into three loads.  Fuel might be needed on site at Roe Creek, and we have a fuel truck for that for an additional cost.  So .3 times three is .9,  plus a .4 for the ferry back and forth to Squamsih , for a total of 1.2 which equals $4943.40 not including the fuel truck.    Cheers.

New hut construction

Tools list

==Salvageable Materials== from existing Hut

  • 8 2x10 beams in good condition - 14 1/2 feet long
  • ladder is good - 26 inches wide by 99.5 inches tall made of 2x6 tongue and groove
  • 2x6 tongue + groove boards - perhaps 50% of siding boards in existing hut are salvageable. Tongue + groove boards on upstairs floor are poor. These boards have already been salvaged once, so they are in short lengths and will be full of nail holes. Tongues + grooves may become damaged during removal.
  • All plywood (exterior and floor) is heavily damaged.
  • Hut furniture is crude, with the exception of one nice cooking bench.
  • 3 of 8 laminated beam segments are cracked. Each beam is approx 2 1/4 inches * 6 inches.
  • miscellaneous 2x8 and 2x6 boards in good shape, but already cut to short lengths.

Snowpack data

The idea here is to establish snow accumulation patterns in the area. Any data, even annecdotal, is welcome.

  • April 1st, 2003 -- Snow up to the top of the roof at Brew hut. Less than 1m of snow at microbrew.
  • November 14, 2004 -- 1.0m in drift near Brew Hut, no snow at microbrew (scoured by steady 60km/h winds), 50-60cm at Brew Lake. Light winds at brew hut (sheltered from trees) and in brew lake basin.
  • February 6, 2005 -- 2.5m at Brew Hut, 60cm at microbrew (wind scoured to only 20cm immediately around microbrew), 2m at flat basin above brew lake, 1.6m at Brew Lake. Steady NW winds at Brew hut and Mircobrew. Light NW winds at upper basin and Brew Lake.

New Brew Trail

A new trail may be part of the plan for the new hut. See the wiki page for New Brew Trail
