: Does anyone remember the earliest the lake has been reported to have been frozen? If it helps, it was not frozen on the January 13/14 weekend 2007.  If you are really bold and decide to try anyway, you can climb a hill near the Battleship Islands and try to see if it is frozen all the way across.  Ice screws can be useful at checking ice thickness. ::A few years ago I crossed it in Late December (29th or thereabouts) after a week long cold snap of -15C.  It was solid, bare ice, not very thick, and a little bit scary.
