The route up to Hanging Lake has one unavoidable difficult section - a 35 to 40 degree slope in the forest. Furthermore, the easiest way up requires doing a couple kick turns above a small cliff, albeit on a gentler angle. I'd say that overall it's harder, but shorter, than the infamous "beginner slayer" trail to the Brian Waddington Hut. Strong "survival skiing" skills will get you through in one piece.
