Introduction

Who Should Come?
Are you thinking about heading out into the backcountry from the ski hill or backcountry riding for the first time? Or are you experienced and want to keep up with the latest in avalanche risk reduction? Show up at one of the CAC's Backcountry Avalanche Workshops and bring yourself up to speed. Note that this workshop is not a substitute for a certified Avalanche Skills Training course.

The Mission:
The mission of the workshops is to provide you with an avalanche safety primer in a grass-roots style. We want to help you learn how to play it safe, through a progressive and unique forum for the sharing of ideas and developments. If you like to snowboard, ski, snowshoe or ride a snowmobile, this workshop will help you reduce your chance of getting in trouble with avalanches. Period.

Speakers

Colin Zacharias
A Mountain Guide with close to 30 years experience in the avalanche industry, Colin will share some of his local knowledge of the Joffre and Duffy Lake area.

John Baldwin
John has been ski touring throughout the Coast Mountains for the past 35 years and is the author of three popular guide books. John’s presentation will focus on choosing terrain.

Cam Campbell
Cam is an avalanche forecaster for the CAC who also works as an avalanche researcher and consultant. His talks will include a photo analysis of avalanche terrain.

Plus other speakers with recent research, trip tips and much more.
