This trip is, perhaps obviously, an introduction to skiing in the backcountry.  Skiing in the backcountry is a lot different than skiing in a resort for a bunch of reasons, including snow conditions, routefinding, avalanche danger etc.  This trip is geared to introduce people to these differences so they can learn to be more confident heading into the wilderness in winter (on skis).

Old Trip
This is the sign up and organization page for an old trip. It already happened. Please do not sign up for it.

Introduction

This trip is, perhaps obviously, an introduction to skiing in the backcountry. Skiing in the backcountry is a lot different than skiing in a resort for a bunch of reasons, including snow conditions, routefinding, avalanche danger etc. This trip is geared to introduce people to these differences so they can learn to be more confident heading into the wilderness in winter (on skis).

Who?

Anyone who wants to learn how to ski in the backcountry. Basic camping and skiing skills required. Winter Longhike and Tele School are good preparation.

Note that since this trip is still in the early planning stages it isn't yet clear how many people will be able to go on the trip. There will be a limit based on number of "instructors," location etc. Feel free to sign up, but if the list starts to get huge, realize that it is possible not everyone will be able to go.
