Access

South end access is wia the Base Camp parking let for Diamond Head. North end parking is in the Black Tusk parking lot. To complete this trip, one has to do both the Sphinx Hut and Diamond Head trips on the north and south end respectively.

Route

From the Elfin Lake hut ski northward, contouring for about 2km (approxmately following the summer trial). Drop down to Ring Creek, cross and gain the Garibaldi Glacier on the west side of the Opal Cone. Then NNW past the Tent and over a high shoulder at 2178m. The Shark Fin is traversed on the east side, then ski down its north slope to the Warren Glacier. Pass through the col west of Glacier Pikes, then NE and hown the gentler slopes of the Sentinel Glacier to Garibaldi Lake. The glaciology huts in Sentinel Bay are usually locked, but at Sphinx Bay there is a public shelter (built and maintained by the VOC)

Hazards

  1. A tent should be carried as it is very easy to become trapped by a whiteout.
  2. Glacier Travel
