usage
parameters
All parameters should be used numerically - i.e. hut=1, days=2, hike=1 to set them. All uses of this template should include at least one of the basic parameters (hike=1, ski=1, snowshoe=1, climb=1, scramble=1 or mountaineering=1)
- days
- The number of days of the trip. This will be used to calculate fuel and food amounts.
- hut
- adjusts fuel calculation based on staying in a hut.
- hike
- set to 1 for a basic hike
- ski
- set to 1 for a backcountry skiing trip
- climb
- set to 1 for a technical rock climbing trip
- scramble
- set to 1 for a rock scrambling trip
- mountaineering
- set to 1 for mountaineering. May be combined with climb=1.
- glacier
- Set to 1 for any trip involving glacier travel. This includes ski trips, snowshoe trips, as well as general mountaineering.
- snowshoe
- set to 1 for any snowshoe trip
- avalanche
- set to 1 to add avalanche equipment to any type of trip.
- no_avalanche
- By default ski trips and snowshoe trip gear lists will have avalanche equipment. This option will remove it for trips to suitably safe destinations.
- season
- adjusts fuel consumption and clothing lists for season. valid values are "winter" "spring" "summer" and "fall". This is a mandatory parameter, with a default value of "winter".
- melt
- adjusts fuel consumption to take account for melting snow in the summer.

Great idea Scott. Thanks. --Matthew 14:42, 29 January 2008 (PST)
I think the white gas calculation needs to differentiate between hut trips where melting snow to make water is unnecessary, e.g. Waddington, and hut trips where it is, e.g. Brew. The calculation assumes you need 50 ml pppn less if staying in a hut, but that would only seem to be correct when the hut has a (liquid) water source. I suppose for Brew there is the wood stove for melting water, but this isn't always the case. --Matthew 15:13, 29 January 2008 (PST)
