The Chilliwack River is a great river for Whitewater kayaking. It can usually be run any time of the year, has easy access and has sections for a wide range of paddling abilities. However, like all BC rivers, wood can present a serious danger especially on the lower "easyer" sections where the wood gets hung up.
The Chilliwack River has 5 commonly run sections:
Beginner Section Vedder Bridge to Lickman Road - is a class I+ section suit able for introducing paddlers to moving water
Novice Section Pointa Vista to Vedder Bridge - is a class II section with some small rapids over rock and gravel bed
Intermediate to Advanced Section Sleese Creek to Pointa Vista -has a pool-drop character of mostly class III rapids followed by calmer sections (most are not actually pools. Tamihi Rapid is a step up from the rest of this run. It is a class IV fairly continuous Boulder Garden that you see when cross the first Bridge up stream to the Vedder Bridge.
Advanced Section - "The Canyon" - Is not actually a canyon but a challenging Class IV+ continous Boulder Garden Section from the second chilliwack river bridge to slesse creek
Upper Section -Is a class III+ section up river from the canyon run the put in is at post creek and the take out is the canyon run put-in.
