Misty Ice Field Traverse 2009

This orphaned page is to help organize the trip being planned by Frances Sharpe, Evan Morris, Megan Anderson, Greta Raymont, Ben Singleton-Polster


Tasks

Done:

  • Direction of traverse - N to S
  • Our main contact while on the trip (for avi/weather updates, emergencies) - Christian Champagne. Evan/Greta to give Champagne a detailed trip plan.

Still to do:

  • Maps - Frances will get 1:20 000 and 1:50 000 maps. Evan will print some copies too at work.
  • Transport - Evan to arrange return ride from Pitt Lake; Ben/Greta to arrange transport to trailhead
  • Organise boat ride - Ben
  • Plan backup plans and escape routes
  • Plan food

Meal Requirements

  • 9 Lunches (must be edible as snacks - we will likely not find beaches to eat at)
  • 8 Dinners - must be vegetarian
  • Emergency food? (i.e. cliff bars)

Also Lara and Bram researched the traverse but bailed at the last minute due to weather. Here's Lara's intended route:
Misty would be Thu-Tue (6 days), plan to go from Chief Paul Creek FSR to the Icemantle Glacier to Snowcap Lakes to Snowcap Icefield, Misty Icefield, Stave Glacier, Terrarossa Lake & Glacier to either (1.) ski out along an alpine ridge to the North to Fire Creek FSR, (2.) ski out to the North and go down all the way down to Glacier Lake/Snowcap Creek FSR (back to starting point), or (3.) ski out South to the North Sloquet "FSR" (bushwack likely). Usually (see Baldwin guide) the traverse is done to Pitt Lake, but this seems longer and doesn't bring us back to the same starting point...
