In the 2010/2011 year, an 80s themed ski social was run in late February. A VHS Recorder and some old tapes of Warren Miller ski films (kicking around the clubroom) were a great addition (can hook up to the projector). The Gallery is a good place for socials as friendly staff run the bar, served cheap drinks and help clear up some of the mess at the end of the night.

Introduction

The Vice-President :

  • Takes over when the President is unavailable.
  • Organizes Longhike in the fall
  • Organizes the Winter Social in the winter
  • Organizes the Annual Banquet in the spring
  • A good position for somebody with social skills, who is good at getting lots of help when needed.

The low down

Congratulations, you're supposed to be the second highest ranked person in the club but who's kidding, the treasurer has way more influence than you. So does the senior quartermaster. Should have ran for Secretary, eh? Don't let this weigh you down. You're still the go-to guy/girl to get Longhike, the Winter Social and the Banquet off the ground. And if you're extremely lucky, you may become president if the current president dies on some beginner friendly or mountaineering trip.

Your humble tasks

As soon as you get elected, you must start thinking about preparing Longhike in the fall. Lisa has already booked a site for 2011/2012 season. Pre-booking makes organization notably easier, so it would be good to book for 2012/2013 to save faff next year. See the organizational timeline for Longhike logistics.

Thinking that you're in the clear after Longhike? Nope. Next up is the winter social in early December. It's somewhat a Christmas-ish get-together minus the Christmas part before the holidays that involves a potluck, slideshow and maybe even some music and dancing. It's not as big as the banquet, but still a good bash. See the organizational timeline for Winter Social logistics. If Oker Chen is still around he's been a popular DJ in the past and charges reasonable rates.
