Synopsis

A trip to Brew Hut to celebrate the end of the school term and the beginning of the winter holidays. The aim of this trip is to get people who have not been up to Brew Hut in winter a chance to make it up there. Since a fair few folk don't ski, people are encouraged to come on snowshoes. This is because as long as you walk, you can pretty much snowshoe. Skiers are welcome of course, but any lame skier heard mocking snowshoes will find that they have neither in the morning.

Since the days are ending early, Saturday evening will have a dessert potluck, Feuerzangenbowle, and singing. The plan on Sunday is meander over to Mt. Brew, perhaps build a snowman, and to walk down. This trip is beginner friendly, and will need a medium level of output.

If you have any questions, email Conrad K.

Date

The pretrip meeting is Wednesday Decemeber 8th, 6:15pm, in the clubroom. It will start promptly, so don't be late!

There will be some sort trip fee collected during the pre-trip meeting to cover the costs of mulled wine. Bring some loose change. (Loonies and Toonies)

The trip is December 11th - 12th, 2010

Equipment List

The days are short, and the hut is warm, so you don't need to bring a whole lot on this trip.

This page has a good list of what people bring on a standard ski hut trip: Gear_lists#ski_hut_trip.

A basic list to start with is:

  • A set of non-cotton clothes
  • A wool sweater or fleece
  • Some sort of waterproof(ish) layer
  • Gloves or mitts
  • Toque
  • Headlamp
  • Sunglasses and sunscreen. (We're hoping for good weather)
  • Shovel, Beacon, Probe
  • Food (Dinner, two lunches, and a breakfast.)
  • Potluck contribution
  • Snowshoes/Skis and Poles
  • Sleeping bag + mat
