Defined in the glossary as "To make, or attempt to make, progress through thick coastal forest and undergrowth. See Fun (type II)."

Levels of bushwhacking, as defined by the VOC:

BEGINNER - Walking off-trail a minimal distance in order to relieve oneself privately.

INTERMEDIATE - Most often accidentally, perhaps because the main trail was lost or a potential shortcut may have been found. Also includes off-trail hiking in alpine or rocky areas.

ADVANCED - Intentional, longer-duration (multiple hours) off-trail hiking in thick, forested areas.

EXPERT - Advanced bushwhacking but while carrying skis A-frame on a full pack.
