Slideshow Strategy

  • Mechanical check/repairs of existing slide projector.
  • Make sure we always have a spare bulb for our projector.
  • Consider buying an LCD projector. LCD projectors go for between $400-$2500 on eBay. It is thought we could get a pretty good one for around $900. An LCD projector would be useful for 'slideshows', as well as events such as avy school, dryschools etc.
  • Refund Chris Barrington Leigh for extra slide carousel ($25)

Computing

  • Add member photo upload
  • Add captions to photos
  • Is the Clubroom Computer Reliable? Adequate?

Clubroom Committee

  1. Large Map - we have decided to construct a new map using the money donated in memory of Jean Kay. Conor and Rebecca will lead the construction project, which will bear a dedication in memory of Jean Kay.
  2. VOC map collection - the collection of 1:50,000 maps in the clubroom is not used, and essential maps are missing. Nick Elson is doing a survey of which critical maps are missing. If we find there are no useful maps left, we will scrap the map collection.
  3. Noticeboard - this needs a section giving details of upcoming trips. Each trip organiser will post and information page about their upcoming trip.
  4. Locked cabinet - Fern Webb has provided a small cabinet, which lacks a top, but she has threatened to construct one. This will enable us to remove the larger old one and free up space.
  5. Chairs - chairs are needed for the Wednesday slideshows. Previously they have been brought in from elsewhere in the SUB, but not returned. According to architect Michael Kingsmill, plastic stackable chairs cost around $50 ea. To free up space and save money we will continue to borrow chairs for the time being, but make sure they are taken back at the end of the slideshow.

Ski Tuning Equipment

Before my slideshow presentation earlier this month, a representative from the Bike Co-op dropped by the clubroom. They are thinking of buying some ski tuning equipment and supplies for people to use through the bike kitchen (waxing irons, ski vices, files, etc.) They were wondering if we (as a club, or as individual members) would be interested in participating and I gave a tenative Yes. The opportunity exists to establish a good space for working on skis (somthing we lack, and the bike kitchen is right next door) and to pool resources on bulk ordered supplies (wax, ptex, skin glue, etc.) and equipment. This is especially relevent as the usual time for the ski / skin repair workshop is approaching and someone on the exec should contact the bike kitchen before the workshop is arranged. - Scott Nelson
