What?
A hiking trip to one of the VOC huts this weekend. It will probably be the Brew Hut, since it's the closest, but other options include the Harrison Hut or the Phelix Hut.
Date
The trip is November 1st - 2nd, 2008
What to Bring
It's likely to be cold and wet, so bring what you need to stay warm and dry clothes to change into at the hut. Also make sure you have some sort of waterproofing for you sleeping bag and spare clothes. Wool and synthetic clothes are great. Don't bring cotton.
You can check out the skiing gear list as a reference, just don't bring skis... not enough snow for that yet.
Nominal capacity is 12, and the most I've ever seem the hut hold was 16 (it was crowded). Let's try and keep enough hut space for the beginners, and those looking after them.

About tents...
If you would still like to come, you can bring a tent - but it must be a 4-season mountaineering tent. The hut is on a very windy col, and a 3 season tent will likely not survive. You are also not encouraged to plan on a snowcave without bringing a tent backup. The snow close to the hut is usually poor for snowcaving (if there is enough - this is November) and we will likely arrive well after dark (at winter longhike the days are substantially longer, and most beginners take the better part of a day to build theirs).
Extra space on the trip for people with tents will depend on the number of experienced people who are coming with tents.
