Synopsis
A trip to Brew Hut to celebrate the end of the school term and the beginning of the winter holidays. The aim of this trip is to get people who have not been up to Brew Hut in winter a chance to make it up there. Since a fair few folk don't ski, people are encouraged to come on snowshoes. This is because as long as you walk, you can pretty much snowshoe. Skiers are welcome of course, but any lame skier heard mocking snowshoes will find that they have neither in the morning.
Since the days are ending early, Saturday evening will have a dessert potluck, Feuerzangenbowle, and singing. The plan on Sunday is meander over to Mt. Brew, perhaps build a snowman, and to walk down. This trip is beginner friendly, and will need a medium level of output.
Date
The pretrip meeting is Wednesday Decemeber 8th, 6:15pm, in the clubroom
The trip is December 11th - 12th, 2010
Equipment List
template:master gear list
Note that you can borrow equipment from the club for free. Gear_rental does require a cash deposit, however.
Please consult the above links for all information regarding proper skiing clothing and gear. In winter especially, none of your clothing should be made out of cotton. Anything wool or synthetic is probably safe. Just remember, Cotton Kills.
Stuff you need from the club probably includes:
- Skis (bindings are adjustable, ask when you pick them up, make sure they fit your boots)
- Skins (ask the QM - they let your skis go uphill, quite necessary for this trip. Make sure they fit your skis)
- Boots (make sure they fit your feet, and your skis)
- Poles
- Shovel
- Probe
- Avy transceiver

Nominal capacity is 12, and the most I've ever seem the hut hold was 16 (it was crowded). Let's try and keep enough hut space for the beginners, and those looking after them.
