Access

Take the new Callaghan Valley Road and park at the Callaghan Country Parking Lot near Alexander Falls. There is a sign that says "customer parking only" but there should be a couple of plowed spots on the right before the sign that you can use. Backcountry skiers are expected to either stay off the groomed trail, or buy a discounted trail ticket to use the grooming. The discount only applies if you are on AT or Telemark skis, not light nordic skis.

Route

Follow "Mainline" trail for 8.5km to Callaghan Lake. It's signed as 9km, but it's really 8.5. All forks are well marked. It takes 1.5-2 hours to get to the Lake. There is good yo-yo skiing terrain on the west and north sides of the lake.

Hazards

  1. Thin ice on Callaghan Lake
  2. Avalanche hazard in yoyo ski areas. The main road to Callaghan Lake is not threatened by avalanche terrain.
