UPDATE 2019: According to BC Parks: 

This park will remain closed until further notice, however, conservancy visitors can still visit other provincial parks that remain unaffected. Please visit the BC Parks website (bcparks.ca) to explore alternative camping options, as well as the Discover Camping website (discovercamping.ca) to check for available camping with reservations. Closure Date: May 17, 2019

According to Parks Officials this is in effect for the winter as well and all access to the area is not allowed. Until further notice (as of September 2019) this means there is no access to the hut. All maintenance trips and access has to be permitted by BC Parks on a case by case basis. Despite the fact that the hut does not to appear to be at any risk, and it is possible to access from routes other than Cerise Creek, the whole area is closed.

Keith Flavelle was a mountaineer and great contributor to the BC mountaineering community. When he was killed during an expedition on Mount Logan, his friends and family built this hut in his memory. It is a very comfortable hut that contains a wood heater. The hut is near the base of the Anniversary Glacier and provides access to excellent summer mountaineering and winter backcountry skiing. If you are staying in the hut, please make a contribution to help for upkeep and repairs (email, dropbox or by mailing a cheque), especially when using firewood (this is transported in by helicopter).

Large groups and guided parties are discouraged from staying as the hut was intended for smaller groups. There is no booking system so it is advisable to come prepared for alternative sleeping arrangements, be that a tent or snowcave.

In recent years the firewood which used to last well into the summer has been severely depleted. Frequent bonfires are in large part to blame. The firewood at the hut is for stove use only, and all bonfires observed outside of the hut should be shut down immediately. Please feel free to make this known to anyone doing so.

Every September a work party organized by the family ventures up to the hut to perform repairs and maintenance - watch the VOC message board for announcements or reach out to the Flavelle family to see about what you can do to help out.

The Hut is managed and lovingly looked after by the Kieth Flavelle Memorial Society. Financial contributions and manpower are essential for the ongoing hut maintenance and firewood stockpile. Donations are essential for the ongoing success of the hut, and can be made in cash at the hut, by mail, or by credit card, PayPal, or Interac Online here.

Large groups are asked to make a minimum donation of $20 per person per night. In this way large groups are not encouraged, but if they do come, the financial contribution is expected and it is very helpful.

Access

The Jofree Backcountry Area holds non-motorized recreation zoning. For more details on the land usage and zoning of the area, view the Lillooet Forest District LRMP.

The hut is accessed via the Cerise Creek Trail from Highway 99. The Cerise Creek Trail has two separate routes for the winter and summer seasons. Both trails originate at at a parking pullout on the Duffey Lake Road, and cross a stream (Cayoosh Creek) immediately after the parking area.

Shortly after, the (new as of 2009) summer trail ascends a flagged and well-trodden route up the West side of Cerise Creek, which ties in to the the old logging roads for a distance before returning to the forest and the old (pre-2009) summer route. In the forest well after the logging road there is a trail-intersection with separate routes for the Hut (right) and the toe of the Anniversary Glacier (left). In winter there is often tracks heading up this trail. If you find yourself on the west side of Cerise creek, take the FSR East until you hit the winter trail.

The winter trail crosses a second bridge over Cerise Creek near the highway and ascends the East side the creek before crossing back over Cerise Creek near the foot of the Anniversary Glacier along side the morraine. Class 1 Avalanches have occured here. AST 1 training and appropriate equipment should be considered essnetial for all users.The summer trail is a more direct route to the hut but on the north slope approaching the Hut, the trail becomes steep and treeline avalanche conditions need to be considered.
