> Sea to Sky Winter Backcountry Recreation Forum Scenario - Successful > Vancouver > 2010 Olympic Bid > > The Callaghan main line will be plowed to Alexander Falls, providing > easier access to the > valley. It is anticipated the mainline will be plowed to Alexander > Falls by approximately 2005. > Mount Sproatt, Rainbow Mountain and Callaghan Valley - including > Conflict Lake, Cowpow > Ridge, Telemagique, and Madeley Lake - will be designated a > non-motorized public recreation > zone, except for a snowmobile corridor through the Callaghan Valley. > Motorized public > recreation will be confined to that corridor and to the Woods Lake > loop. The corridor will > follow the current Round-the-World snowmobile trail from Alexander > Falls to the Pemberton > Icecap and Powder Mountain. Given that the Callaghan main line will be > plowed to Alexander > Falls, a footbridge will be built across the Callaghan Creek at > approximately the seven > kilometre mark on the Callaghan main line to allow snowmobile traffic > to access the network > of logging roads on the west side of the Callaghan Valley and to link > up with the Round-the- > World trail through the Brandywine Valley. The footbridge will permit > snowmobilers to > complete the Round-the-World trail from the staging area to be > established at Alexander > Falls. > The following facilities or services will be required in the Callaghan > Valley: > Parking facilities at Alexander Falls that provides separation of > motorized and > non-motorized visitors. A smaller parking lot will be maintained just > off the > highway to permit non-motorized access to Mt. Sproatt via the logging > road that > branches off the Callaghan main line less than km off Highway 99. > Day lodge at or near Alexander Falls. > Snowmobile facilities/services at Alexander Falls: Staging area, > rental services, > sled school, repair and maintenance facilities, storage facilities, > grooming > services, trail improvements on the west side of Callaghan Valley to > link the > Round-the-World trail and to accommodate the increased traffic to > Brandywine > once the footbridge is in place, and management of terrain traps such > as the > Gauntlet in the Brandywine Valley and 104t Street above Callaghan Lake.
