This year again, the venue will be to Evans Lake Forest Education Centre. The good news is that is very close to Squamish, meaning more climbing! Tickets will start selling during Clubs day, September 17th - 19th. If you can't make it to the booth at those times, drop by the clubroom around lunchtime.
Introduction
Longhike is a very popular annual event usually held on a weekend in late September or late October. Despite the name, for the most part it does not involve hiking, although some years there is a "rock 0" hike and/or a "rock 2.5" intro to sport climbing. On Saturday there is a "rock school" in Squamish. This consists of small groups led by an instructor who is a VOC member with climbing experience. Groups climb at either Murrin Park or the Little Smoke Bluffs. All ability levels are welcome and no climbing experience is necessary. The Saturday night will include dinner at Evans lake followed by a dessert potluck and a huge party with a DJ. On Sunday and/or Monday is open climbing days and there will be no formal instruction. This is the perfect time to try out your newly learned skills with people that you have met climbing or partying.
When?
When?

October 11th - 12th, 2008
We will be meeting on October 11th, 2008 at 9:00 am SHARP in the parking lot of the Smoke Bluffs. We will then meet at Evans Lake at 5:30 (Rock I) or 6:00 pm (Rock II) for dinner. Make sure you organize your car to collect people from wherever they are since people may get split up during the day.
Where?
Climbing in Squamish (Smoke Bluffs or Murrin Park), followed by a huge climbing party and sleepover at the Evans Lake Forest Education Centre. You'll be staying in cabins that fit 8-10 comfortably in bunk beds. Bring a sleeping bag, since there is no bedding or blankets. If the weather is good, there's also a lake!

The purpose of Dry School is to: Sort people into rides; join up drivers and passengers. Sort people into instructional groups, according to your abilities, experience, and preferences. Make sure everybody knows what to bring. Answer any interesting questions.
Q: Should I bring a swimsuit? A: In the past we have managed without; up to you.
Q: What about a hair dryer? A: If you have really wild hair, it might be worth while.

What if I don't have a ride?
First of all keep an eye on the above section. Things usually shift around a bit before the weekend. I would recommend taking the Saturday morning greyhound bus that leaves Vancouver from Main St. station at 8:00. This should get you into Squamish at 9:10 where some really nice drivers will act as shuttles to the bluffs.
People probably taking the bus (ie don't have rides):
- Grayson Reim
- Oana Sandu
- Sara Nazim
- Honza Vohradsky
- Megan Gilchrist
- Alpha
- Sean
- Laura Morrison
- Meghan Anderson
- Bahar Khazei
- Saba Ardeshiri
- Christopher Lee
- Caitlin O'Leary
