Glacier School
As always glacier school was very popular and the wiki sign-up filled up very fast. Again this year the 10 instructors and 30 students on G1 went to Anniversary Glacier, while a G2 group with 2 instructors and ~8 student went to climb Mt. Baker.
A week before glacier school Christian Veenstra and I decided to digitalize the Info booklet, but instead of just putting it into a computer Christian ended up rewriting the whole thing.
- Created a time line for the organization of glacier school, which can be found on the Glacier school logistics page
Jared Memorial Mountain safety lecture
This was the second time the VOC organized the memorial lecture. Usually it consist of a lecture of some kind and a movie. I found that it was kind of unclear what we want to get out of the lecture. I found it hard to find a topic about safety in the mountains that would actually be useful and interesting for the average VOC'er. I find that is not fitting to have a lecture on avalanche awareness, as a 1 hour lecture is useless and the ACC's workshop is held just a couple of weeks before. It might be something to discuss with the exec. However maybe the lecture is mostly for Jared's friends and family? As for the movie this year we showed The fine line. I think I was more likely to get caught in an avalanche after seeing it.
Anyway, this event could definitely get better in someway, but I don't really know how.
Here is the poster I made: Media:JaredPoster.pdf And the How to list is posted on Exec reports - Public Relations#How to Organize the Jared Stanley Memorial_Lecture
